As a reminder, Intuit announced late last year that it is making significant updates aimed at enhancing user experience, streamlining workflows, and integrating cutting-edge technologies. Importantly, as a result of these updates, after July 31, 2024, Intuit will no longer sell new subscriptions for the following QuickBooks Desktop products:
- QuickBooks Desktop Pro Plus
- QuickBooks Desktop Premier Plus
- QuickBooks Desktop Mac Plus
- QuickBooks Desktop Enhanced Payroll
However, it’s important to note that current subscribers will still be able to renew their subscriptions after July 31. In addition, Intuit will continue to provide support and updates to these products. And all QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise subscriptions (Silver, Gold, Platinum, and Diamond) will still be available for purchase by new subscribers after July 31, 2024.
Eliminating new subscriptions for these products is part of Intuit’s strategy to encourage QuickBooks Desktop users to transition to QuickBooks Online. However, users who prefer the Desktop version have the following options:
- Users of the non-subscription versions of QuickBooks Desktop Pro, Premier, or Mac that wish to remain on Desktop can purchase a subscription version through Intuit before July 31, 2024.
- Pro Plus or Premier Plus users who would like Desktop Payroll can purchase a QuickBooks Enhanced Payroll subscription before July 31, 2024. Alternatively, they can upgrade to QuickBooks Enterprise Gold, Platinum, or Diamond, which include integrated payroll features and can be purchased after July 31, 2024. QuickBooks Online Payroll is also available to Desktop clients and is a standalone full-service payroll solution.

In January, Intuit also increased its fee for each direct deposit through QuickBooks Desktop Payroll to $4.
