Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation Prospective (BWC) Billing Highlights
The prospective billing system begins July 1, 2015, and will require payment before it provides coverage.
Companies will receive their premium estimates every May. Premiums are based on the period of July 1 thru June 30th the prior year.
The first bi-monthly BWC premium payment is due by August 31, 2015 for the September/October period.
A company can change the type of installment plan from bi-monthly to monthly, quarterly, bi-annually or annually. You have until July 15, 2015 to make this change online or by calling 1-800-644-6292. Whatever the option, it is effective for the entire policy year.
There is an eight month BWC credit for 2015 (January through August).
Although no payment is due to BWC for the first half of 2015 the return still needs to be prepared and submitted no later than August 31, 2015.
Any BWC deposits on file at BWC will be credit back on the August invoice. Since this is a prospective system, there is no need for deposits.
True-up of payroll will be done each July and the first one will be due no later than August 15, 2016. True-ups have to be made on time otherwise the company will immediately be removed from any BWC programs and/or alternative rating plans. Any rebates from these programs will be held until true-up is completed.
The “Go-Green Rebate” is still in effect if returns are completed online. The rebate is 1% of payroll up to $2,000.
Coverage will lapse if installments are not made on time.
